Dear Princess Celestia,
Today I watched the Season 3 finale.
I am really not sure what I think about this. On one end of the spectrum there is a LOT of songs, a little to many in my opinion. I am pretty sure that if you wrote out Celestia's song it would have been a much better episode. On the good side of things there is a lot of content and integration with the season plot. As an overall thought I do believe that there needed to be a bit more time balancing in this episode when it comes to time and of course... Alicorn: GOOD OR BAD?
There's some great concepts in there but I really wish that the whole episode was about Twilight fixing her friend's cutie marks instead of half an episode. I am pretty sure you could have written off the 'just for side kicks' ep. and made it a double just to make it a little less crammed (I am fairly sure this might have been an original intention.)
I am still annoyed that Rarity never got her own episode, and I am pretty sure that the team were very aware of this oversight due to the last few episodes giving Rarity a bit more screen time/important roles than the other girls (Still not good enough Hasbro). But I think this was a very nice finale, but why cant the finale NOT be able Twilight Sparkle for once? Maybe the other five elements of harmony being the focus.
My thoughts on Twilight becoming a princess/alicorn:
I am not sure if this is a step for the good or the bad. On the obvious spectrum most people are going to jump on the 'bad' bandwagon. Twilight being an alicorn could destroy her more important aspects such as her desire to learn and get stronger now that she has reached the highest possible point she can. Also now she is a princess she COULD be replaced by another character needing to learn with Twilight becoming much like Princess Celestia to the team... This would be a VERY bold move. Not to mention Hasbro's input could turn this very quickly into a Winx club situation where all the mane six slowly become alicorns one by one which would also be VERY BAD.
But enough of the bad, lets talk about the good. There is a lot of plot potential from this to stop My Little Ponies from becoming incredibly dry. (Which I hope is the direction that Hasbro are going to be taking.) For season four there is going to have a lot of conflict where Twilight is going to have a hard time balancing royal duties and her time with her friends. There is going to be potential for jealousy of her friends thinking she is now too good to be around them. There is problems of fame and how people change in their way of interacting with her. Of course there is also the part where people can suddenly go: Why does she deserve to be a princess? She is only good at magic and has not been elected by the people.
All in all this is an episode of polar issues and I hope that the animators take the directions of plot rather than marketing. I am putting my faith of ponies in your hands Hasbro. Don't mess it up!
